What API2Cart Is Evaluating for ADempiere Integration

01

Candidate workflow

Link commerce demand with business partners, products, orders, inventory, and shipments. Final entity and method coverage will follow verified vendor interfaces and customer requirements.

02

Operational outcome

The intended result is to retain client, organization, warehouse, attribute set, price list, tax, and workflow context. Identity rules and idempotency would be defined before transactional writes are enabled.

03

ERP safeguards

The design must support customized installations through explicit mappings and controlled updates. Customers, products, sales orders, fulfillments, invoices, and production records would keep their distinct lifecycle roles.

What We Know About ADempiere So Far

Based on ADempiere’s own documentation and API2Cart’s discovery process — not a promise of a release date.

API & Integration. ADempiere's native integration layer, ADInterface, is a SOAP/WSDL web service (exposing CompositeService and ModelADService, reachable at /ADInterface/services) rather than a REST or JSON API. Authentication is done per call by passing user/password credentials together with ClientID (tenant), RoleID, OrgID and WarehouseID, so every request is explicitly scoped to a specific company/organization context. This reflects ADempiere's older Java/Compiere-derived architecture, which predates modern REST/OAuth conventions; teams needing JSON/REST typically front it with a community-built gateway rather than calling ADempiere's own service directly.

ADempiere integration is not live yet. Authentication, modules, entities, fields, writes, events, limits, editions, and release timing remain subject to technical discovery and demand.

Background. ADempiere’s official history traces its predecessor Compiere to 2000 and the community fork to September 2006, with the first ADempiere release following in October 2006. It remains a community-governed, GPL-licensed ERP, CRM, and supply-chain platform rather than a single-vendor SaaS product.

Where it specializes. ADempiere covers quotations and sales orders, purchasing, multi-warehouse inventory, shipping, product costing, manufacturing, accounting, tax, reporting, human resources, and other community extensions. Its central active application dictionary allows implementers to modify windows, fields, processes, validation rules, and data models, making installations highly configurable.

Integration challenge. Modern community projects provide gRPC-backed services and proxy layers with GraphQL for reading and REST for reads and writes, while older deployments may use different web-service plugins or custom Java interfaces. The proxy documentation explicitly allows custom modules with entirely different APIs. API2Cart must identify the deployed ADempiere version, API project and module, tenant and organization, client roles, dictionary customizations, document types, warehouses, accounting schema, and document-completion workflow. An endpoint that creates a record may not complete or post the ERP document.

Technical validation. Engineering must verify web-service extensions, authentication, version, tenant boundaries, and custom models. Unsupported modules and operations would remain outside the public scope.

Roadmap evaluation considers API maturity, sandbox access, operational correctness, commerce relevance, scale, customer demand, maintenance cost, deployment variants, and overlap with existing connectors. This page records a candidate, not a promised release date.
